Barrow v Whitehaven The Charity Fixture It is hoped a real family atmosphere will be generated in Craven Park this Sunday as Barrow Raiders take on our Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven. As well as a very important Championship fixture which could define the rest of the season, its a fixture we are hoping will raise lots money for our chosen charities this year.

The first is Alice Escapes, a local charity that provides family holidays for seriously ill children.

The charity was founded in April 2012 by (then) 16 year old Alice Pyne.  Alice's vision was to enable every sick child to enjoy a holiday with their family - an escape where they could be looked after from start to finish and simply enjoy being together.

After a five-year battle with cancer, Alice gained her wings early in 2013. Her family and friends, along with invaluable support from the community and local businesses, are committed to ensuring her legacy lives on.

The 2nd is Cancer Research, a national charity which aims to find the causes of cancer and the prevention and cure of this horrific disease that effects so many of us in one way or another through our lives.

Raiders have teamed up with kit manufacturer Oneill’s who have designed and made a special shirt just for this fixture. The kit is being provided free of charge for the players courtesy of Oneill’s and some of these playing shirts with be auctioned off immediately after the game with the players still on the pitch. Raiders fans had the opportunity to buy a replica shirt of the charity jersey and all the profit from these jerseys Barrow Raiders will be splitting between the charities. There will be bucket collections on the day for all kind generous fans to donate to. See below for details of buying an actual playing shirt

To add to the spectacle Barrow Raiders have invited some of their greatest past players or “Barrow Legends” to the game to enjoy the day and share a pint and a story or two from their time with the club. These names read like a who’s who of Barrow greats, record holders, greatest points scorers, world’s most expensive player, trophy winners, international stars, international tourists and true greats that gave many many years or dedication to our great club. Tommy Dawes, Frankie Jones, Phil Hogan, Steve Hogan, Dave Cairns, Derek Hadley, Andy Whittle, Brett McDermott, Darren Holt, Gary Broadbent, Pat Trainer, Steve Rea, Neil Shaw, Dave Clarke.

  Before the game....

The Raiders Bar will be open from 1pm, there's a special food & drink offer on for the game to entice supporters to the ground a little earlier for pre match entertainment. A bottle of lager and a burger for just £3 - until 3pm.

After the game....

We will be auctioning off some of the Raiders actual playing shirts from the game on the pitch for fans to bid for immediately after the game on the popular side. The shirts will be signed by the player in question too. All money raised from this auction on the day will go to our charities.

These playing shirts are unique collectors items and will not be replicated in any future season. A must have for any Die hard Raiders fans

Barrows Premier band "Average Joe" with lead singer Andy Newsham will be playing in the ground straight after the shirt auction for fans to enjoy.

Looking forward to seeing you all one Sunday, safe journey down!
