Doncaster RLFC can confirm that Ben Musolino has joined the club on an initial one-month loan deal from local rivals Sheffield Eagles.

The 22 year-old Australian has previously played for St George Illawarra in the U20’s competition as well as spending time with Manly in the NSW cup.

Musolino, who holds an Italian passport and has been capped at international level by them, joined Barrow Raiders in 2014, before being snapped up in the close season by Sheffield Eagles.

He has made a total of five appearances for Sheffield this season, with the last coming in April when the Eagles beat Halifax 36-10 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Speaking about the arrival, head coach Gary Thornton said: “Ben has struggled recently for game time at Sheffield Eagles and he is too good to be playing for the reserves.

“Mark Aston contacted us to see if we would be interested in taking Ben on loan, which we have for an initial month period with a view to extending that until the end of the season.

“It was ideal for both clubs for him to join us on loan, Steve Snitch has just returned from injury, Mike Kelly is out injured and Jack Walton and Matt Groat are both suspended, so we are really low on numbers in the forward area.

“He can play in both the front and back row, he has trained with us in all of our sessions this week and he will go straight into Friday’s squad for our clash with Featherstone Rovers on Friday.”

Remember Dons fans can see Musolino in action at Castle Park against Whitehaven on Sunday 28th June and get 50% off match tickets!
