Thornton Laments Injuries At Rochdale

Doncaster Rugby League head coach Gary Thornton spoke to the official website following the 38-22 defeat to Rochdale Hornets.

The Dons had a 16-4 lead in the first half, but the Hornets fought back to hand Doncaster a third defeat in the Super 8s.

Once again the Dons suffered more injury casualties, which Thornton felt had a huge impact on the game.

"We are really disappointed, in the first half I thought we did really well, coming back from a poor start at the kick-off when Rochdale scored," said Thornton.

"We got ourselves back in the game, at 16-4 we looked in quite a commanding position, but we were guilty of a couple of sloppy plays right at the back end of the first half and we let them back in.

"Going in level at half time deflated us, there were a lot of heads down in the changing room, if we had gone in 16-10 at the break I think it would have been a different story.

"Injuries have again absolutely crucified us in the second half, we had so many players out of position.

"We are down to the bare bones and we picked up even more injuries, so it has been a nightmare once again for us in that respect.

"We lost Mason Tonks early on and David Foggin-Johnston had to come off for 15 minutes in the second half with a head injury, so that had a huge impact, with only limited interchanges available.

"We are having to play full-backs in the second row, props in the back row and of course it effects you.

"I really feel for Mason at the moment his head is all over the place, he has been so unlucky with injuries and has now suffered ankle ligament damage."
