The Dons’ pre-season fixture against Leigh Centurions has been postponed at the request of the Championship side.

The game was scheduled to take place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday January 14.

Dons chief executive Carl Hall said: “We are obviously disappointed to lose this game, which would have been a really good test for our lads and a good match for the fans, but understand Leigh have some injuries and cannot send a side as a result of this.

“I have a good relationship with Leigh owner Derek Beaumont and am sure he is as gutted as I am at this, but am sure we can sort something out for next pre-season - at which point they could well be a Super League side again.

“We would still like a game that weekend to help get our boys into shape for the new season, so would welcome anyone who would like to step in to give me a shout and we can sort something out.”

Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont said: “I am obviously gutted to let Carl and his Doncaster club and fans down, when we got relegated I assured Carl we would still proceed with the game on the terms required of Super League clubs and that was always my intention.

“I found this difficult to cancel last minute as I have always lived my life treating others as I expect to be treated and I would hate for this to happen to me in the same situation. I have taken measures to ensure that this doesn’t have a significant impact on the Doncaster club off-field and I hope they can draft in another team so as not to hinder their on-field preparation.

“I would like to thank Carl for his understanding of this situation. I know it has greatly disappointed him, but he is a genuine quality guy and knows through our relationship that this has been difficult for me to do.

“I can guarantee Carl and the Doncaster club and its supporters that irrespective of what division we find ourselves in next year they will be first on our list of friendlies.

“Furthermore, in view of the manner in which this has been understood and accepted, if we are able to assist at anytime in the season with loan players or opposed sessions then they have my word we will do so."

If you have purchased a ticket for the game, head to the Club Doncaster Box Office where you will recieve a full refund on your ticket.
