Jordan Howden says the trip to Catterick gave the squad a chance to bond ahead of the Betfred League One season getting underway.

The squad were put through their paces ahead of their trip to face Newcastle Thunder on February 16.

He said: “It was very tough mentally, it was good to get away with the boys though and work on different aspects of communication.

“We did a lot of running and they showed us what sort of things they have to go through on a day-to-day basis.

“Getting together as a squad over the weekend brought us together more, you can find out more about people with spending that time with them.”

After facing three Super League sides in pre-season, Howden says the side are ready for a trip to Kingston Park in round one.

He added: “We came up against three good teams who will go well in Super League, we maybe just lacked a bit of intensity against them.

“I think the Newcastle game is one of the best fixtures to have first up, they’re a new team and we’ve had a settled squad for a good period of time now.

“We’re still learning from each other but it’s going to be a big occasion which we’re all looking forward to.”
