How Is Your Club Relevant?

Recommended Posts

Keen to know (especially from those that support suburban clubs in Sydney or smaller UK towns) how your club (RL or another sport for that matter) remains relevant to the local community.

Schools coaching and inter school events, community initiatives and events, branded street art, open training sessions, junior club yer appearances or anything else? Would love to hear of something unique.

For years Widnes Viking’s have milked as much money from the local community as possible with little return. Hopefully with our new ownership, things will improve in future

Milked in what way?

As in the fact it was all take with nothing giving back.  For example if a local amateur team asked for a signed shirt to raffle, they would be charged £100 whereas they would expect the amateur teams to supply players / facilities for free

Yeah that is woeful. Would you say the millennials from Widnes strongly identify with being from Widnes and being proud to be from Widnes?

Widnes Vikings are a great example of a club from a respectively small town that must engage and excite its local community in order to compete against an expanding competition. Without a strong fanatical base, they are the exact type of suburban club that are at risk of falling into professional obscurity.
