Frayssinous confident of securing Mason deal

Catalans Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous has revealed he is hopeful of concluding the signing of Willie Mason as revealed in Monday’s League Express – but rejected talk that a deal was imminent.

The signature of Mason has been a real drawn out saga for Catalans over the last few weeks, with the deal looking both on and off at numerous stages.

But Frayssinous, speaking after Saturday’s game against Huddersfield Giants, admitted they’re now hopeful of sorting a deal out for the former Australia international.

“We hope we can make the signing of Willie, but we have to ensure that he has the correct paperwork and passport in order for us to comply with the quota rules,” he said.

“Willie is a strong player who will give us good competition in the middle of the field.

“Whenever you get the chance to sign someone who has played at such a high level you have to look at all the possibilities, and we have done a lot of exploring in recent months.”
