Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has criticised the RFL for its failure to move quickly on making preparations to promote the new season.
League Express understands that last week Hetherington circulated an email to some of his colleagues at other clubs, as well as to the RFL executives outlining his criticism of the governing body.
Although reluctant to divulge the details to League Express, he did explain his disquiet with the RFL’s apparent inability to move quickly in addressing some of the marketing issues facing the game.
“I would just reiterate that I’m frustrated that the clubs and the executive are not moving things forward at a great enough pace,” Hetherington told League Express.
“This is not a criticism of any individuals but a frustration that as an entity the clubs and the RFL seem able to identify some of the things that need doing, but then we seem to stall when it comes to taking the recommended action.
“We had several really productive debates and meetings in the recent past that created an appetite among the clubs to really move things forward. I’m disappointed that things haven’t moved as quickly as I would have liked.
“In terms of creating change we are running out of time.
“The new season starts in February and I have just got back from a trip to Australia. I find that emails have been exchanged but nothing has been done.
“Energy and urgency is needed. The clubs have given us a mandate to press forward and we need to start doing so.”
