North Wales Crusaders name new captain

NORTH WALES CRUSADERS coach Dean Muir says there is a togetherness in the squad as he prepares for the new season.

The Colwyn Bay club have shrugged off reports of players being unpaid and the unexplained departure of several and ploughed on with their build-up.

Muir said: “The boys are really enthusiastic, and they are buying into what we want, the talk and the communication is definitely there.

“The togetherness and tightness is evident and I think our skill has been good overall.”

Muir himself is a new face, having replaced Carl Forster following the end of the League One title-winning season.

He has now appointed his leadership group, with former St Helens player Josh Eaves named on-field captain.

The 28-year-old hooker joined North Wales ahead of the 2025 campaign after two seasons with Swinton.

Eaves said: “It’s a great honour to be named captain. I’m incredibly grateful to the coaching staff for their trust, and I can’t wait to lead out this talented squad. I’m excited for what we can achieve together.”

Veteran prop Chris Barratt has been named club captain, and fullback Lloyd Roby and halfback Jordy Gibson have both been handed vice-captain roles to complete a four-man leadership group.

Muir added: “I am really happy with the leadership group. Everyone understands their role and how important it is.

“Making Evo captain was an easy choice. He leads from the front and has high expectations.

“It is an exciting time to be a Crusader and these leaders drive the standard which will define our season.”
