WITH every last hurdle now having been cleared, the RFL will announce today (Monday) which of three consortia it will officially support in order to create a new company to run Salford and be granted membership of the RFL.
The RFL had originally hoped to make the announcement last Wednesday, but a delay in securing a final agreement to play at the Salford Community Stadium held it up at that stage, but was finally resolved on Friday.
The RFL interim chief executive Abi Ekoku made a report to the RFL directors on Saturday and they have now made a decision, although it will not be announced until today.
“I am delighted to confirm that board approval has been received and that the new member will be announced tomorrow,” Ekoku told League Express on Sunday evening.
“The RFL has worked very closely with both the Mayor of Salford and the Mayor of Greater Manchester to ensure the continuity of professional Rugby League in the city of Salford.
“A technicality means we must wait until tomorrow before releasing the name of the winning consortium.”
Whoever is successful, the decision will bring a positive end to a dreadful year for the Salford club and its supporters.
