RFL wanted Salford to be given higher points deduction

Sports Resolutions (UK) have today published their full written reasons for dismissing the appeals relating to the decision by an Independent Tribunal to find Salford Red Devils guilty of breaching the RFL Operational Rules and RFL Salary Cap Regulations.

A lengthy document confirms that the tribunal found there to be “clear breaches” of operational rules regarding the contracts of Theo Fages, Lama Tasi and Tony Puletua, while it confirms that the club was spending an aggregate of £1.919 million for a period of 109 days in the 2014 season, which is over the salary cap figure of £1.825 million.

The document goes on to reveal that the RFL challenged the severity of the sanction imposed and proposed a higher points deduction to be spread into the Super 8s Qualifiers, although this didn’t materialise after the tribunal was impressed with Dr Marwan Koukash and the fact he has “implemented procedures to avoid this happening again.”
