Scratchy Hull keep pressure on Warrington

Hull FC kept the pressure on Warrington with a scrappy 18-12 victory over Wakefield.

Despite being far from their best, a magical moment from Mahe Fonua eight minutes from time secured them a vital victory that moved them to within a point of the Wolves.

It was Wakefield who held a slender 8-6 lead at the break thanks to Joe Arundel’s try along with a Liam Finn penalty, although Lee Radford’s side did respond through former Wildcat Danny Washbrook.

The visitors took the lead midway through the second-half when Jordan Thompson scored under the sticks, although a superb finish by Tom Johnstone levelled the game up with 10 minutes to play.

However, Fonua then came to the fore, busting the defence and offloading to make 50 metres, before picking up and scoring from dummy-half to earn his side victory.
