Sinfield was offered NRL deal to come out of retirement

Kevin Sinfield has revealed how he nearly came out of retirement to play in the NRL.

The legendary loose-forward, who retired at the end of last season after winning the treble with Leeds, has confirmed that he was offered a deal by an unnamed NRL club when visiting Australia in May to watch a State Of Origin game.

“I was very close to staying on,” he told BBC Sport.

“I would have loved to have finished the season off, but  I’ve had my time and it’s time for the next group to come through and pick the baton up.”

Sinfield also revealed how he held discussions to take up a coaching role at the Rhinos, but decided that it wasn’t the right time for him.
