Walker signs new London deal

Alex Walker has signed a new deal with the London Broncos that will keep him at the club until the end of next season.

The 21-year-old fullback made his way up through London’s scholarship and academy systems, making his first-team debut in the final Super League match in September 2014 at the Hive, before signing a first team contract for the 2015 season.

Walker has made 13 appearances thus far in 2016, scoring two tries in the side’s opening Kingstone Press Championship home match against Swinton in February.

The Scottish international has also played a part in London’s Super 8s campaign, having started in all four games so far, against Leigh, Batley, Leeds and Huddersfield.

“I’m really happy to be staying on with the Broncos, it’s my home club and I love it here,” said Walker.

“I came up through the scholarship and academy systems, so to make it into the first team and be offered the opportunity to stay on longer is something I’m really proud of, and something I’ve worked really hard to earn.

“We’ve really come together as a side this year – we’ve worked hard, and that’s shown in the results – I’m excited to see what 2017 will hold for this team, and really happy to be a part of it.”

Broncos head coach Andrew Henderson added: “Alex has stepped up this season and continued his development with us. As a coach, I have seen huge improvements in his overall game from the start of the season until now.

“We have managed his game time through the Championship season and challenged him to improve areas of his game at training and during the time he spent on dual registration.

“He has taken that on board and worked really hard on making these improvements. As a result he has now started in all four of our Super 8s games, and hasn’t looked out of place. He is doing a really solid job and I’m happy with his contributions to the team.

“Alex will continue to put pressure on some of our more established players next season and add further strength in depth to an already strong back line. I am excited to see him improve further again next season and we’re very pleased that another London product has committed to the club.”
