Warrington Wolves halfback George Williams names “the best player” in Super League

WARRINGTON WOLVES halfback George Williams has named “the best player” in Super League.

Williams has been superb for the Wolves during the 2024 Super League season so far, helping to propel Warrington under new head coach Sam Burgess to the top of the table.

The halfback is well-placed to be able to have his say on the quality within the northern hemisphere’s most prestigious competition.

And, to the surprise of few, Williams named Wigan Warriors star Bevan French as “the best player” in Super League.

French is currently sidelined for Wigan with a hamstring injury – and the Warriors’ form has suffered as a result, with Matt Peet’s men slipping from four points clear at the top of the table to joint third.

It’s fair to say that Williams rates French, saying live on Sky Sports: “I think he is the best player in the competition.

“He can play at wing, halfback and fullback, you name it he can play it.

“People come to watch him and he is brilliant to watch.”

Earlier in the week, Peet gave this update on French: “Bevan is progressing well, he was running down the pitch yesterday.

“We have a fixture in mind for when he will likely be back but I can’t remember it off the top off my head.”
