Castleford Tigers centre Jake Webster has agreed a one-year contract extension to stay with the club until at least the end of the 2017 season.
Webster, 32, who joined the Tigers in 2013, agreed a contract for 2016 in November and his form so far this season has justified the club’s decision to offer him that deal.
Now in his fourth season with the Tigers, Webster has appeared in all nine games this season, scoring five tries.
Before moving to England, Webster played for NRL side Gold Coast Titans during their inaugural season and before that for Melbourne Storm. He was part of New Zealand’s 2005 Tri-Nations winning team.
Webster recently became a British citizen and moved house from Hull to settle in Castleford, and he is delighted to be staying at the Jungle for another season.
“I’m feeling really good,” said Webster.
“It’s been a bit of a tedious few years for me with injuries, so I’m pretty proud of myself. I am excited to be staying with the club and hopefully we can build on the start we’ve made this year.”
Jake added: “Moving house to Castleford is probably the best thing I’ve done. It’s helped my body to be able to rest up, and it’s brought me closer to the boys and to the club.”
Tigers coach Darly Powell has seen Webster play a key role for the club this season.
“Jake has been a revelation this season, he is fitter than previous seasons, and has taken over the left centre position in such a positive way,” said Powell.
“His work rate with the ball has been outstanding, which along with a tough defence has meant this contract extension is very well deserved.”
Tigers CEO Steve Gill is delighted to keep hold of Webster: “I am really pleased to announce that Jake is staying another year in Castleford Tigers colours,” said Gill.
“He has become part of the fabric of the club, and a true fans favourite! His form this year has been exceptional, and we look forward to seeing this continue.”
