Wellens career could be coming to an end

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham admits that he fears iconic stalwart Paul Wellens could have to call time on his playing career.

Wellens hasn’t played since coming off injured during the Good Friday game with a hip problem – with Cunningham admitting that he’s had to see a specialist in London regarding the problem.

And the club and Wellens are now facing an anxious wait to see if he can play for the Saints again and add to his 495 appearances for the club.

“Wello’s probably not looking great,” Cunningham told the St Helens Reporter.

“He’s just got to wait and get the final verdict from a guy in London who is supposedly the best hip guy in the country.

“We’re just going to have to wait and see what this guy says but I don’t think it’s looking the best news for Wello.”
