We’re the underdogs, insists Tony Smith

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has insisted his team are the underdogs when they host Wigan Warriors on Thursday night.

Smith’s Wolves team are massively down on numbers, and are likely to hand a debut out to youngster Sam Wilde after losing Ben Currie and James Laithwaite to injury and suspension respectively in the last week.

And with a short turnaround thrown in to boot, Smith says he’s hopeful his team can thrive in the role of underdogs.

“We need to make sure we’re energetic and enthusiastic against Wigan because they’ve got some terrific athletes and they will test you,” said Smith.

“We want to put on a good show. While it isn’t the ideal preparation time, sometimes the underdogs – and that’s what we are – come up with enough fight to get through.”
