Widnes Vikings have granted forward Adam Lawton a sabbatical from his contract with the club.
The Vikings say the 21-year-old asked for a period of leave to enable him to move to Australia but the club will retain his registration in case he returns to First Utility Super League.
Widnes chief executive James Rule said: “We obviously respect Adam’s request and want to provide him with the opportunity to move to Australia and away from the rigours of playing professional rugby league with Widnes Vikings.
“We accepted Adam’s request but he will remain contracted with the club and the door remains open for Adam should he wish to return to Super League in the future.”
