Winning start for BARLA

Sean High reports

Three minutes into the game Matty Harling raced through a gap to go 60 yards to open the BARLA account.

Bradbury added the extras before a break down the right hand side for Jamaica was halted by BARLA on the 20 metre line.

Both teams tested each other and some strong defence from Heppell and French forced an error, on the restart a good show and go and a 30 metre dash led to Ostle crossing on 30 minutes, Bradbury missed the conversion.

Bri Ritchie, the man of the match, took two hit-ups in the next set and, on his second, broke the line and passed to Hunter who crossed in the right corner, Bradbury being unable to improve.

Some good work released Grainey down the right side to score, this time Leicester added the goal, 20-0.

Impressive Jamaican defence stopped the flood gates opening, BARLA leading 20-0 at the break and at the start of the second half and the Jamaicans upped their game.

A big hit on Hopkins spilled the ball, Jamaica took advantage and some good play led to Jamal McKenzie crossing the BARLA line, the conversion was missed by Grant.

BARLA responded immediately with a Hunter try. Leicester added the extras and on 50 minutes Ostle released Hopper under the posts, Leicester improving for a 32-4 lead.

Good passing from right to left on 54 minutes led to Cahill dummying over, Leicester missing the conversion.

Some good defence and a ball spill saw Shaw barge over the Jamaican line, this time Leicester added the extras for a 42-4 lead.

BARLA worked hard up the middle and Cahill was too quick to the line for the chasing Jamaicans, Leicester again goaling. Jamaica crossed the line through the big man Antonio Baker, Grant added the extras but BARLA come out on top when Hunter crossed for he’s hat-trick, Leicester missing the difficult touchline conversion.

Jamaica tried a short kick off but Leicester received the ball and outpaced the Jamaicans down the middle of the park and then added the goal to his try to complete the scoring.
