RFL chief executive Nigel Wood has refused to comment on talk about Anfield hosting the Four Nations final – but says that the revealing of the fixtures for the tournament is “imminent”.
League Express revealed several months ago that the home of Premier League giants Liverpool was in the running to host the final of the event, with reports emerging this week suggesting that it has been confirmed.
Wood, speaking exclusively to TotalRL, refused to comment when he had the question put to him about the location of the final, but says he feels that the fixtures which are being put together will excite fans.
“The fixtures are imminent, yes,” he said.
“I can’t comment on that (Anfield) but I know that Jon Dutton, the tournament director, has gone to extraordinary lengths to develop a compelling suite of fixtures.
“Hopefully when they’re announced it will leave fans excited for what the tournament holds later this year, as it should be a fantastic occasion to have four great national sides all competing on these shores.”
Rumours are suggesting that England will play games at the Olympic Stadium, Coventry’s Ricoh Arena and Huddersfield when the tournament takes place later this year.
