Yorkshire to meet Cumbria in BARLA Tri Series

BARLA Yorkshire County Under 17s will play Cumbria on Sunday 2nd October, in the opening game of the BARLA Tri Series, at Stanningley ARLFC.

Hoping to go one better than last year when they finished runners up, the BARLA side will be selected from the twenty-two man final squad, in training over the last month with coaches Richard Milner and Frank Francis.

“Training has been going reasonably well,” Coach Milner offered, “considering the numbers that turned up at the first trial. I am happy with the players selected and we are looking for some big performances, both individually and collectively. No captain has been appointed yet but there are a couple of strong contenders. The final choice may be announced on Wednesday night after training.”

The Cumbrian side, who will be unknown to Yorkshire, will all know how important it is for them to get a win that would send them to Lancashire for the third and final game of the series.  “I am expecting them to be big and tough physically,” commented Milner, “but as long as we can meet that head on we will be okay.

“The game itself is about what we do as a unit and how far we have come,” he added. “As far as this series goes, I think Cumbria will be strong all across the park and Lancashire will also be very strong. All we can do, to cause problems to both Cumbria and Lancashire, Is concentrate on our own game.”
