In Topic: I discovered Rugby League at the age of 48

11 June 2015 - 08:27 AM

I discovered Rugby League in my fifties when I saw Widnes v. Wigan in the Vetch Field in Swansea. I am now an enthusiastic supporter and was overjoyed when the Celtic Crusaders began in Bridgend in 2006. Sadly no Welsh Marvan Koukash appeared from the valleys.

I attend the Grand Final each year and will be at the England v. New Zealand game in Wigan

I hope that you continue to enjoy our great game.

In Topic: 23 May: Catalans Dragons v Wigan Warriors KO 6pm (TV)

Here's what I reckon...
1) you can't have it both ways - I want Cats to do well in front of big crowds and games like today are great for them as a club. Bravo;
2) Catalans have gone down a different route from us - with Dureau, Henderson and the sublime Carney they have wonderful players capable of shaping any game and playing any conditions. If I was in 4th or 5th I would be looking over my shoulder in a concerned manner;
3) for us, it is right to stick with young. British players. So Williams and Powell were taught a lesson by Carney? It's a price worth paying if they develop into great players. They may not, but rather than run off to the NRL I will accept the odd off day;
4) we have been competitive against Leeds in the past, and while I can understand their fans laughing at us tonight, I suspect we will turn up next week ready to play;
5)!how can Stevereed retain that level of rage - it's not as if any Wiganer gives Hull KR a moment's thought. Thank god they're playing a derby next week so he can turn his fury on OF;
6) great to see Escare and some other French players going well. It'd be good to see more of them, particularly 10 years in, but the good ones are getting better. Maybe Toulouse will be thrashing us this time in a few years - you have to dare to dream;
7) as for Wane, he has done so much for the development of young English players as to deserve far more than the contempt heaped upon him. He is a decent man who loves our game. If he does keep his job, next year he' have Sam back to add inspiration to the structure;
8) not a good day for us, but a good one for the game and we'll have better days.

A well considered and thoughtful post. Thank you

It is excellent news that highlights will be broadcast on S4C.  I fear that the match will be one sided. Scorpions are no match for North Wales.

What do you watch. Let me in on the secret.

In Topic: Leeds v Warrington

No problems with the loss. We lacked energy for the majority of he game but Warrington strangled us for the second time this season. I don't think this is the start of a slump. We just came up against a very good team and lost. On another day some of the things we tried stick and it's a close game.

On to Huddersfield...

Good. A meaningful comment.
