Disagree there Lowfield: We did have the forwards to compete with Leigh but they were unavailable most of the season. We had them on the back foot in the first match (Challenge Cup) until Dale and Bostock got injured for half the season, and Crossley missed a few games too. It was mainly at half-back where we couldn't match them, and also in support play in which theirs was the best I've seen in years.
Dale and Crossley have gone, but we need Bozzy back permanent, and Locky to return to his best form. If that happens and the new forwards (Wood, Carvell, Nicholson and 2 of the 3 Aussies still to come) live up to their reputations we will definitely have the best pack in the division. I would still fancy Leigh to finish top though because of their coach and half-backs. A full strength Rovers would be in good shape for the middle eight, however, if they get over their tough start with half their side to come over or recover from injury.
Aye, agree with Steve. A bit unlucky with the forwards - a bit more strength in depth this year so less vulnerable in that department now.
I felt at times teams got over us in the centres, the GF illustrated this 2 or 3 times early on. Centres looking a lot stronger this term, and, like in the forwards, more strength in depth there too. For me, Steve is spot on. Leigh were much more creative at 6 and 7. This will be the key area for us - can we match the 'full timers' in this department?
