It worked alright last year, just this year things have fallen apart

I've  said in the past that when we first went summer it was brilliant, nothing wrong with the concept on paper at all, what we did find once the sparkle of summer rugby became the norm (about 4 or 5 years) players would train (No problem, we had 40 to 50 every Tuesday and Thursday evenings) but concerts, weddings, bachelor weekends and partner pressure took it's toll on a weekend, We are now seeing clubs who 5 years ago turning out two open-aged teams and a U18's struggling to get 17 on a team sheet, yes we've got some clubs who are doing OK but who have folded around them.

As is usually the case, we all have one aim but the RFL, Amateur Clubs, Pro Clubs all seem to pull in different directions, I think recently something big was happening in Lancashire with Pro clubs and promoting the game and the administrators of the local leagues complained they knew nothing about it

Pro clubs only wanted the elite players the rest where dumped, this lead to teams folding, not good as coaches and admin got disillusioned and walked away from the game.

Don't you think that the support that's available is directed more towards the established clubs, every new initiative seems to be for the haves, if your a pub team run by one guy you get nothing, yet the amateur game grew up on the back of pub teams which also gave the guy in the bar the chance to try out at the sport (Some turned out to be good players)

Is the criteria to set up a new pub team to stringent these days, should they be relaxed for new teams ?

I wasn't aware that new clubs had to meet any criteria to play in the regional leagues?

Do the club's not take a vote to decide if a new team enters the competition down your neck of the woods Marauder?

I was thinking more about coaching badges, touch line management etc

Think Town are involved with sky try but Haven returned the money as no staff to push the project forward, the rfl are more interested in super league than anything else, the old development officers have long gone, these guys helped the amateur clubs increase there player numbers at youth level by helping the clubs break in to the local primary schools recruiting new players, they also worked closely with club when attracting grants for coaching first aid/ child protection courses ect.

Sadly the rfl have lost  and  a lot of funding from sport England recently, this is down to them not reaching there targets in player participation,  over the years they have tried to pull the wool over sport England's eyes, with cash not going to the grassroots' game,  instead of community development officers they now have individuals who have multiple  job rolls, and in different areas of the country, they are left with multiple tasks including development, league administrators, welfare, registrations, schools rugby, local academy teams, and on and on, sorry but the rfl are blinkered of the problems the grass route clubs presently have, but yet they keep adding more and more hurdles in front of the loyal volunteers who work tirelessly in keep the amateur game going.

Doncaster RLFC had every school but two playing rugby league before the plug was pulled, they had achieved so much in such a short time, these kids would all be around the open-aged age now and who knows how many may have been in the Professional set up now.

the problem with the rfl is the people at the top, they haven't any idea what is going on at grass route level, they don't understand how its only the league and individual club volunteer's keeping our great game going, the rfl community managers have been given so may different  roles to cover  its a joke, the game is split in 3 sections now, super league, championship and community game, and the gap is growing apart every season, only way forward is a restructure and a good clean out at rfl, starting at the top with mr woods.
