  1. What did you think of the Dupree incident that led to his yellow card on Friday?
  2. Well yes, but the fact that it initially hit the chest was used as a mitigation on the field hence the yellow card instead of a red, and seemingly the reason he's no case to answer at the MRP. So a forearm / elbow into the chest is seemingly ok? But you'll get 10 mins if you subsequently hit them in the head. Odd.
  3. Really struggling with the Dupree one. So it's ok to raise a forearm / elbow with the arm not carrying the ball, and hit a defender with it, just as long as you don't hit him in the head? It's as if the game is trying to legislate for every specific action, and cannot just adjudge something to be serious foul play
  4. A lot has been made of the players that Salford have sold, but MacDonald, Cust and Shorrocks were big signings for them, and Mellor a very shrewd one. Salford's backline was just too good for Leigh's, with Lafai / MacDonald being a mismatch for Chamberlain / Hardaker. The latter of which really played poorly. Shot out of the line to concede a try, and when he made a break, he may as well have thrown Hanley in touch himself. Was awful centre play.
  5. But we can’t wait for Asiata and Amone to be back before we start defending properly, otherwise the season is over already.
  6. Looks to me something beyond missing players. Too many tackles either being dropped off, or allowing an offload. Players rushing out of the line and some errors that you wouldn’t condone on a school field. None of the organised, determined defence of the last two years. Sadly it was reminiscent of SL under Jukes, Duffy and Haggerty at times.
  7. On the Dupree one, I don’t know how the same mitigation factors for a high tackle can apply to someone that is leading with the forearm? A tackle is a legitimate thing to do, Dupree’s action wasn’t.
  8. Can’t see Salford being as bad as they were last week, and Leigh’s defence and maybe even fitness are an issue. Salford win.
  9. Terrible pundit. Sounds like Harry Enfield's Kevin the Teenager character at times. When he was talking about the Asiata tackle, he was close to making a decent point, but it was drowned out by his sulky, mouth frothing delivery.
  10. No, I'm not judging the tackle. I think the tackle itself was just about fine, as did the pundits and tribunal. But the reality is, he runs the risk of being sin binned if he makes the exact same tackle again in his first game back. I'm not saying it's right, but it is the way it is. I'd rather see him go slightly higher, or keep his arms in the tackle for slightly longer, and stay on the pitch.
  11. Rightly or wrongly, there is going to be an increased scrutiny when Asiata tackles low. And when he comes back from injury, if he makes the exact same tackle again he runs the risk of being sin binned. The charge might be challenged, but that's no good to us on matchday. If his right arm doesn't drop so quickly, then it becomes more apparent where his initial contact point is, and there is less question over the intention to wrap. Then if opposition players run in, we get the penalty, just like at the start of the cup final last year. As a Leigh fan, I'm glad they have appealed the charge, and highlighted that it was a card given based on the player involved rather than the actual incident. But I'm more bothered about seeing us win games, rather than proving the point. And what would be a small tweak to the tackle would reduce the risk of him being sent from the field considerably.
  12. Oddly enough, there was part of Wilkin's rant that I agreed with (of a fashion). While the challenge itself was ultimately cleared, he gave the referee a decision to make, and Saints players something to stoke up some anger about. And it had us a man down for 10 minutes in a close game. It will happen again, unless he can complete the tackle with his arms actually wrapped around the attacker's legs.
  13. I've found myself thinking about this game when reading various threads about attendances and in particular, the Challenge cup. If this game was played now, you'd see all sorts of comments about the number of empty seats and how we shouldn't be playing at Wembley. 30 years on, nobody mentions the attendance, just the sending off and the Davies try. Was my first ever trip to Wembley, so personally a memorable one for me as well.
