Sam Burgess could be set to make his Bath debut this weekend, after it was revealed he could be named amongst their replacements for their Aviva Premiership game against Harlequins this Friday.
The 25-year-old has only just started training with Bath after that horrific facial injury suffered in the NRL Grand Final whilst playing for South Sydney Rabbitohs. However, Bath coach Mike Ford admits it’s possible that Burgess could be thrown in for a debut much earlier than expected – with Ford saying that it’s up to Burgess to tell them when he feels he’s ready to play.
“It might be a possibility,” said Ford. “We haven’t decided on the team for Friday yet. We will keep a close eye on him to see where he is.”
He added: “We are just waiting for Sam to tell us when he feels ready. We just need to take it day by day.”
Burgess ended a lifelong association with Rugby League in October, when he guided Souths to their first Premiership in over 40 years by defeating Canterbury in the NRL Grand Final.
