Burgess “the outstanding back” in England

Sydney Roosters recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan has heralded the capture of Wigan Warriors winger Joe Burgess – saying the club have secured the best back in England for 2016.

Burgess has signed a three-year deal with the Roosters following the end of the 2015 season – he will head to Australia aged just 22.

And Sullivan is excited to get Burgess in the red, white and blue when he makes the switch, admitting that ever since he saw Burgess play, he knew he was going to be a superstar.

“He will be a force, I have no doubt. He will be 22 when he comes out, it’s the right age – he will be a perfect fit. He is clearly the most outstanding back in England. It’s a real coup to have him here for three years,” Sullivan said.

“Ever since I first saw him I went ‘wow’,” he said.”I went over to England and watched him play – I have very high hopes for him.

“He will toughen up as he gets older but his speed, presence, athleticism and try scoring ability is already top shelf.”
