Walsh expected to return mid-April for Saints

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has confirmed that star half-back Luke Walsh is expected to return from his lengthy injury lay-off midway through next month.

Walsh has not played since a horrific leg break last July against Widnes, and he has also undergone ankle surgery during that time.

Cunningham revealed to the media on Monday that Walsh has suffered complications from that ankle surgery, namely a virus picked up during that time which set him back, but he is now on course for a return next month.

“He had complications with his ankle before he did his leg and we got that sorted out after his leg had healed,” Cunningham said.

“There have been a few complications with the bits and bobs (screws and plates) inside his leg so they have been removed.

“It was the right thing to do for Luke. It feels like a normal leg to him now – no screws or plates in the bones. He is in a good place now and hopefully will be back around the start to the second week of April.”
