Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been hit with a huge double injury blow ahead of the trip to face Wigan Warriors on Friday night, after it was revealed both captain Danny Kirmond and star half-back Tim Smith will miss out.
The Wildcats are without a huge chunk of their squad already, with the likes of Chris Annakin, Reece Lyne and Ian Kirke all already ruled out of the trip across the Pennines this weekend.
But they will now have to face up to tackling Wigan without arguably their two most influential players, with boss James Webster revealing that Smith will actually need to see a specialist regarding the injury he has sustained to his knee.
“Danny Kirmond and Tim Smith will not be playing,” said Webster.
“Tim has a knee injury and will need to go see a specialist and Danny Kirmond has been carrying various injuries for a long period of time, and he is just not fit enough to play.
“It gives us a good opportunity to give a run out to some of the younger players again. We go to Wigan with a mindset that we are still looking at getting a result.”
