Dorn commits to Castleford for another year

Castleford Tigers’ Luke Dorn has signed a 12 month contract extension, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016 season.

Dorn, who features in this week’s edition of League Express, has been one of Daryl Powell’s most consistent players since penning a deal ahead of the 2014 campaign, with the Australian quickly finding a regular spot in the team that reached the Challenge Cup Final and finished fourth in Super League last year.

His impressive form last year saw him claim 16 appearances as Castleford became the sensation story of the season, with Dorn also being rewarded with a spot in “Super League’s Top 50” by Rugby League World magazine.

The 32-year-old, who captained the side recently against Huddersfield Giants in the absence of Michael Shenton, said he was thrilled to lengthen his second spell at the club after a previous stint in 2008.

“I am very excited and pleased to have it confirmed,” said Dorn. “I am enjoying my time at Cas and it was a no brainer for me.

“I am just excited that I will continue to be part of what we have created here for another year.”

Head coach Daryl Powell expressed his delight at retaining Dorn’s services for another year.

“I’m delighted that Luke Dorn has agreed to stay at the club for another year,” said Powell. “He has shown again this season what a pivotal figure he is for the team when he’s playing well and I’m sure he will continue to do that for the next 2 years at least.

“His speed in attack has been outstanding and his voice within the group has been a big contributing factor to our improvement as a team.”

Chief executive Steve Gill also commented: “I am really happy that Luke has agreed to stay at the club for another year. He has been really instrumental in a lot of the good things we do here, both on and off the field.

“He is a quality footballer who gives our attack another dimension.”
