Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has issued an update on the club’s injury crisis, as they prepare for Justin Carney to join the injured troops on the sidelines.
Carney injured an elbow during the win against Hull KR last Saturday, and he will now sit alongside a number of the club’s other injured stars for the next few weeks potentially.
However, Carney’s loss could be offset by the return of two crucial backs – including winger James Clare for the trip to Widnes on Sunday.
“Potentially James Clare and Jake Webster are back this week and I’ve got to make a decision on whether I make too many changes after a performance like that. But obviously there’s one forced on us with Justin out,” he told local media.
“Denny Solomona is still a few weeks away and we’re out of outside backs a little bit so it will be handy if James Clare is available this week.
“He got a knee injury against Leeds, which he really didn’t know about in the game. It was just the next day it was pretty swollen. I’m not sure what he’s done, but it’s not too bad.”
Powell also confirmed that the likes of Matt Cook and Luke Dorn will also sit out an extended period of action due to injury blows.
“With Junior Moors we’re waiting for results of a re-scan on his knee. We’ll see where he’s at then.
“Matt Cook needs an operation on his ankle and he’s going in to have it this week, but he’s going to be out for six to eight weeks.
“Luke Dorn will be out for four to five weeks with a grade two hamstring tear. It’s another blow and limits our options in outside backs, but Jordan Tansey was pretty good at the weekend, he’s a capable fill in and when he plays at full-back he does a good job.”
