Leigh Centurions’ leading try-scorer Liam Kay can’t wait to head back to his former club on Sunday (2.15pm) in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup sixth round tie against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
Kay, who has touched down 22 times in 14 appearances for the Centurions so far this campaign, signed from the Super League club ahead of the 2014 season, and thought he would have to wait until the Super 8s to return to Belle Vue.
“I’ve been looking forward to going back there since the new structure was unveiled,” said Kay.
“Once we get towards the end of the regular season, we always identified Wakefield as a potential opposition. I’ve got a lot of friends there as well. I can’t wait to head back there.”
The 23-year-old, who made five appearances for the Wildcats, believes the good work from his team-mates has been the result of his try-scoring feats so far.
“A lot of the tries I’ve scored have been walk-ins, I don’t have to do too much,” he said. “I put it down to players like my centre Tom Armstrong, and also with Greg McNally playing out the back, it makes my job very easy.
“We’re concentrating on winning the game, not on our record or their form. Obviously with 24 games won in a row, we’re full of confidence. Hopefully we can go to Wakefield and get the job done.”
