Warrington winger Gene Ormsby stood in for absent captain Joel Monaghan tonight and scored three tries as Warrington Wolves defeated Salford Red Devils 16-34 at the A J Bell Stadium.
From the point at which Ben Currie touched down after charging down a Theo Fages kick, with Stefan Ratchford adding the goal, the Wolves were never behind, although the Red Devils were always snapping at their heels.
They drew level after 13 minutes when Cory Paterson touched down after being put into space by Weller Hauraki, with Paterson converting his own try.
Ormsby scored his first try in the corner after 17 minutes, although Ratchford couldn’t convert from the touchline, but he scored a try himself in the 25th minute, converting his own try to give the Wolves a ten-point lead.
The Red Devils again hit back, however, when Junior S’au, back in the side for the first time since Salford’s Challenge Cup defeat at Leigh, touched down for Paterson again to convert for a four-point gap at half-time.

Ormsby scored his second try, created by Currie, after 60 minutes, with Ratchford again converting, but the Red Devils replied immediately when Niall Evalds touched down, with Paterson adding his third goal.
But that was the end of the Red Devils’ scoring, and Warrington scored twice again through the excellent Brad Dwyer, with Ormsby rounding off trhe tries with a spectacular touchdown in the corner, launching himself at the line in the face of a challenge from Salford defender Greg Johnson.
