Workington Town have completed one of their biggest signings of the off-season by luring Featherstone prop Ryan Verlinden to Derwent Park.
The uncompromising prop joined Featherstone last season after impressing for Austrlian side Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup. However, an indifferent spell at Fev ended as he was loaned out to Doncaster for the Super 8s.
The 27-year-old ended his career at Rovers after just 14 appearances, scoring two tries.
He was promptly snapped up by Town on a two-year deal, much to the delight of head coach Phil Veivers.
“He’s a big unit and he’s got some ability about him,” Veivers told News & Star.
“He played in the Championship this year and he knows what he’s coming in to.
“Now he just needs to get some more game time under his belt.”
Verlinden was a big hit out in Australia, earning the nickname of ‘The Rhino’ for his aggressive style of play.
