Sa’u keen to reunite with Carney

Salford Red Devils centre Junior Sa’u says he is looking forward to playing alongside his former Canberra Raiders teammate Justin Carney at the A J Bell Stadium next year.

Sa’u and the Australian winger were both part of the Raiders’ junior system in 2006 and 2007. Carney is one of eight new recruits joining the Red Devils next season.

“I’ve known Justin for a long time now,” Sa’u said.

“We were room-mates back then in Canberra. He’s one of my good friends and we always keep in touch.

“I’m looking forward to playing alongside him again. It’s been a while since we played alongside each other. I’m looking forward to all the rest of the boys joining us as well, all the new boys. It will be a young team, but a team willing to work for each other.”

Sa’u, 28, joined Salford in 2014 from Melbourne Storm and picked up the Supporters’ Player of the Year award last year.

The New Zealander has scored 18 tries in 47 appearances for the Red Devils. Sa’u was one of Marwan Koukash’s first signings for Salford when he took over the club two years ago.

In June the centre signed a new two-year deal with the Red Devils, tying him to the club until the end of 2017.

“I’m enjoying my time here,” he said.

“A lot of the boys have left, but I’m still here and I’m sticking around. But I’m happy that we’ve got a good bunch of boys here that I call my brothers.”
