With 2016 now just days away, it seems like the transfer recruitment for most clubs is drawing to a conclusion.
But not every side is done with their recruitment for next season, with some still having an eye on the market to see if anything develops in the coming weeks.
And there are still a number of Super League clubs that have work to do: for example, here’s five clubs we think that could still be tinkering as the season opener on February 4 draws closer.
Huddersfield Giants
This first choice might be dependent on whether the Giants can move Brett Ferres on to pastures new – and if they can, who knows whether Huddersfield will strengthen their squad further? They’ve got a sound squad with plenty of depth, but if they can clear space on their cap and something becomes available, the Giants could dip back into the market.
Hull FC
Hull have made no secret of the fact that they’ve got cap space available after the departure of Joe Westerman to Warrington – and they seem poised and ready to strike if something comes up. They’re one of many clubs linked with the services of Brett Ferres, and with such a fair chunk on their cap becoming free with pre-season well underway, a late transfer from Hull surely can’t be ruled out.
Salford Red Devils
Salford will forever be linked with transfer targets until the new season begins, and even though they’ve made a sizeable recruitment drive to date, there could still be more room to do something.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats
Wakefield chairman Michael Carter told League Express recently that the Wildcats are still scouring the market for one last deal, so it makes sense that the club are included here. They’re on the hunt for a half-back after failing in a bid for London Broncos half-back Joe Keyes – but if something pops up, expect Wakefield to pounce.
Bradford Bulls
Moving into the Championship finally, and on to Bradford Bulls. They’ve brought in a number of new faces as they look to bounce back from last season’s heartbreak in the Million Pound Game – but with salary cap regulations recently altered, might it give Bradford scope to strike up another deal ahead of 2016?
