We want to win something in 2016, insists Daryl Powell

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has insisted he is targeting a trophy from the club’s upcoming 2016 campaign – saying there’s no reason why they can’t get their hands on some silverware.

The Tigers have reached a Challenge Cup final and finished fourth and fifth over the past two seasons, but expectations are high for the club again in 2016 after some impressive recruitment from Powell including Joel Monaghan, Ben Crooks and Ryan Hampshire.

And Powell said that he’s delighted with the way his squad are shaping up in pre-season, and believes that there’s no reason why they can’t compete on all fronts for trophies once again this season.

“We want to win something,” Powell said at the club’s pre-season media day.

“It should be a reality for us. Over the last couple of years we’ve been really close, we want to get in the top four and be battling when the chips are down.

“Mentally and physically, we’re in a great place, certainly technically and tactically I think we are. There are a few different bits and pieces we need to do over the next month but we’ve looked really good in practice.”
