Harrison Hansen’s Leigh debut should not have taken place as he was suspended, the RFL have confirmed.
He was supposed to be serving a one-match ban after being charged for a dangerous throw in his last match for Salford in 2015.
Leigh Centurions were aware that Hansen was supposed to be serving his suspension as it was acknowledged that he would be unavailable to play in the build-up to the match.
However, the RFL have confirmed that an ‘administrative error’ resulted in Hansen being given the all-clear to feature in the contest after the RFL didn’t contact Leigh when they sent their squad for their opening game of 2016.
Hansen was, of course, featured on the squad list that Leigh sent to the RFL, and when they heard nothing back, the club assumed everything was OK.
“We put our squad in (with the RFL) and there were no dramas surrounding it. My understanding is you put your squad in, and if there are no objections, you play your team.” head coach Paul Rowley told Wigan Today.
RFL officials are expected to speak to Leigh about the matter, however it has been confirmed that Hansen will now not play against Warrington this weekend to make up for the oversight.
