Fonua intent on making solid start

Mahe Fonua, the new Hull FC signing, is in buoyant mood ahead of his debut against Salford tonight.

The 23-year-old joined the club from NRL giants Melbourne Storm in the off-season and has impressed in pre-season trial games.

But with the serious business about to get going, Fonua is adamant that the Airlie Birds will put down an early season marker.

“Coach Lee Radford has been preaching to the boys saying we have to get off to a bang tonight,” he told the Hull Daily Mail.

“We need to show the competition that we mean business. We have a strong side and I think we can do it.

“I came over here from Australia in November and everything I’ve done at the club so far has been leading up to this game.

“Excited doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling. Hopefully, with the bunch of boys we have we can do some good things this year, starting against Salford.”
