Scott Grix insists there is no friction between himself and fellow Huddersfield full-back Jared Simpson.
The pair will be competing for the same jersey in 2016, with 20-year-old Simpson expected to play a part again this year after impressing in his first-team appearances last season.
For 30-year-old Grix, who is entering the last year of his contract at Huddersfield, his focus is on maintaining his spot in the team while also aiding the development of Simpson.
“Jared’s in a great spot,” he told TotalRL.
“He’s just signed his first full-time deal. We knew what he could do and I’m delighted he’s had the chance to stay.
“I’m sure he will (play) at some point and I’m sure he’ll be great because his attitude is really good and he’s still learning.
“From the outside in it looks like we’re battling for the same spot, but from the inside we’re mates that are trying to make each other better.
“Jaz asks me as many questions as he wants. We’ve been partnered alongside each other in pre-season and there have been days when I’ve been struggling and he’s pulled me through. If we didn’t help each other out it’d be stupid because we need to be both playing well.”
Grix has had plenty of support in his career from seasoned pros, and now that he is well-established in Super League, Grix wants to provide similar guidance for the youngsters at Huddersfield.
“When I was coming through at Wakefield, Brad Drew was at the club. I learnt a lot from Drewy, even though he didn’t play in my position.
“When I came to Huddersfield Brett Hodgson was the Man of Steel, so there was nobody better for me to look up to then. He was the sort of guy you could learn as much from just watching him as you could asking him things.
“I’d like to think that I’m always available for Jaz or any of the younger kids just like those guys have been for me.”
