Anderson backs Leeming to shine

Paul Anderson has backed young hooker Kruise Leeming to produce the goods for the Giants tonight.

Leeming is set to feature in Huddersfield’s opening Super League clash against St Helens tonight with Kyle Wood and Luke Robinson both ruled out.

A loan move away from the Giants had been mooted for Leeming ahead of the season with his game time expected to be limited, although injuries in the squad have put that possibility on hold.

Despite that, Anderson believes the 20-year-old has the ability to perform at the highest stage.

“He’s ready,” said Anderson.

“With having Kyle and Robbo (Luke Robinson) here we did talk at the beginning of pre-season about potentially sending Kruise out on loan and playing some competitive rugby, playing big minutes against men in either Super League or Championship, but injuries have forced that we can’t.

“Kruise is a young man, he’s 20 years old and he’s played two years of Super League, you forget that sometimes.

“With the people around him in regards to Woody, Robbo, Broughy and Hinchy, he’s got some very good mentors in how to play the game as a key half in a key position. He’ll be good. He has some things he knows he has to work on but I’m real confident in what he can do.”
