Paul Anderson has confirmed he is looking to sign new players to cover the Giants’ current injury crisis.
With half-back Jamie Ellis joining the injured pack after dislocating his collarbone, Huddersfield are now without eight first-team players and still in search of their first win of the season.
They are particularly short at halfback. With Ellis, Danny Brough and Kyle Wood all injured, plus Luke Robinson retiring last month, the Giants were forced to play Leroy Cudjoe in the halves in defeat to Widnes.
And ahead of their Super League basement battle with Leeds, Anderson has admitted they may have to recruit.
“We are always looking for players, but as we lost another against Widnes it may well be that we have to do something,” Anderson told the Huddersfield Examiner.
“The rest of the players we have are even younger than some of the ones we already have out there on the field.
“It is a tough one, but we have to re-evaluate and see where we are at.”
Huddersfield are thought to be interested in Leigh half-back Ryan Brierley, with reports in League Express suggesting that they made two unsuccessful bids to bring him to Super League.
Meanwhile, Anderson has revealed that none of his injured stars are likely to return for the match with the Rhinos on Friday.
“We are looking at Broughy, Eorl (Crabtree), Kyle and Joe (Wardle) but, to put it quite simply, if they are not ready to return then they are not ready.
“It is a short turnaround and I cannot see it making a whole lot of difference for us heading to Leeds.”
