GOSSIP: Brierley activates contract clause

Reports are surfacing that Ryan Brierley has activated the contract clause allowing him to leave Leigh Centurions.

Sky Sports are reporting that Leigh’s star halfback has decided to leave the Centurions just a month into the season.

As revealed on TotalRL in January, Brierley has a clause in his contract that allegedly allows him to leave the club should former head coach Paul Rowley leave for any reason. Rowley resigned 10 days before the new season, citing ‘morals and beliefs’ for his departure. At the time, Leigh owner Derek Beaumont said the clause was unenforceable, but also claimed Brierley wasn’t pushing for a move.

Leigh, Brierley or the RFL have yet to comment on the situation.

Interest is thought to be high in the player, with Huddersfield already having two bids rejected for the star last month. Bradford Bulls are another club that have been linked with the 23-year-old.
