Salford Red Devils have failed in a bid to lure Luke Burgess to the club from NRL side Manly, League Express understands.
Rumours on both sides of the world had linked Burgess with a switch to the AJ Bell Stadium, as the Sea Eagles shuffle their decks ahead of the new NRL season, which begins this weekend.
But it is understood Salford have now conceded defeat in the battle to land Burgess, as he now looks set to stay with the Sea Eagles and stay in Australia.
Salford are still understood to be hunting for a forward, despite missing out on Burgess.
