Richard Marshall said his side got what they deserved following a shock defeat to Swinton.
Fax’s four-game unbeaten run came to an end as they surrendered a 16-0 lead to lose 38-35 to the Lions.
After storming to a heavy lead within 11 minutes, Marshall was annoyed after seeing his side let their advantage slip.
“I’m not happy with what I’ve seen from my team,” he said.
“We weren’t good enough today. I think we fell in love with ourselves after scoring those early tries and we forgot about doing the hard part which is defending our line with vigour and intensity.
“It’s not acceptable for where we are at. We were doing the right things and executing our attacking plan correctly, but you can only execute your attack when your defence is working hard, and it wasn’t today.”
The defeat has resulted in Halifax losing ground in the race for a top four spot, and Marshall admitted it was a blow to their aspirations.
“It’s a dent in what we want to do. We have to go and pick some points up from elsewhere, that is the reality of it.”
