Swinton head coach speechless after first win over Fax in 35 years

John Duffy was overwhelmed after he saw his Swinton Lions pick up a famous victory over Halifax.

Trailing the Championship powerhouses 16-0 after just 11 minutes, Swinton looked set for a long afternoon. But in the end it proved to be a memorable one as four tries from winger Liam Marshall helped them to a stunning victory at The Shay, winning 38-35.

When Duffy discovered the streak his side had just broken, he said: “Wow.

“I didn’t know that. That’s unbelievable. I don’t know what to say to that.

“It’s a massive result for us. These guys at Halifax will be challenging for the Middle 8. We’ve just got to build now.

“We’ve set a goal of staying up, that’s us.

“We’ve come away with a great victory against a real top side. It’s the best one (result) I’ve had.”
