Setaimata Sa believes Widnes have stopped playing as a team over recent weeks.
Their heavy defeat to Warrington on Friday was their fifth consecutive Super League reverse and a tough one to take for all involved.
It was another disappointing night for Denis Betts and his team, who have seen their spot at the top of Super League fade away over the last month.
While Betts struggled to find an answer for their latest poor showing, Sa believes it comes down to a combination of confidence and teamwork.
“There’s a bit of confidence thing I think,” he said.
“We had the run of losses, we got the win last week (against Rochdale), but we should have got that anyway. We’ve lost what we had earlier in the year when we worked together as a team. We’re complaining a bit as individuals, but it’s a team sport and you can’t be doing that.”
A downturn in form has seen Widnes slip to sixth in the league, just two points ahead of ninth-placed Wakefield.
However, Sa insists the team aren’t focusing on a scrap for a spot in the top eight.

“It’s not something we’re thinking about to be honest.
“If we sort our game out and get going again we’re still a good team. You don’t turn into a bad team overnight. It’s just confidence. We were riding high earlier in the year, so we’ve just got to believe in what we did and get back to winning ways.”
