Ashton Sims believes Warrington’s thumping of Widnes is proof that they can play without Chris Sandow.
The Wolves had lost two consecutive games without the talismanic halfback, leading to critics questioning their abilities with him in the side. However, Warrington hit back in style as they put on arguably their best attacking display of the season by defeating Widnes 48-16 on Friday.
Sandow will be missing for around six more weeks as he recovers from a hamstring injury, but Sims believes that their victory over Widnes is evidence that the Wolves can fill the void in his absence.
“Chris is a big loss, he would be in any team,” he told TotalRL.
“But we’re genuinely confident that we’ve got guys who can step into that role. Stef (Ratchford) has stepped in and he has been one of our best players in the last couple of weeks.
“The thing for us now is to prove it wasn’t a fluke and back that up week in week out.”
With the Wolves back on track, Sims knows Warrington will need to replicate the display they put on against Widnes if they are to go on and defeat Wigan in their top-of-the-table clash.
“Look, the last two weeks hadn’t been great,” he said.
“But we’ve taken a step forward now. We want to be playing that sort of footy week in week out, so the big test is to play like that next week.”
