Daniel Vidot’s first two tries for Salford helped Ian Watson’s side to an 18-12 victory over Widnes.
Second-half efforts through Justin Carney and Vidot condemned Widnes to their eighth consecutive league defeat, with Denis Betts’ side just three points above Hull KR having played an extra game.
Vidot gave Salford the lead in the fourth minute, but tries through Rhys Hanbury and Chris Bridge gave the Vikings a 12-4 half-time lead.
